SESSION 1
WHAT STORIES DO YOU HAVE ABOUT ANY OF THE FOLLOWING?
- How is lockdown affecting your life?
- How has your attitude to Money/Employment/Unemployment changed during this Covid time?
- How important is it to build bridges with people from different communities that may seem or think differently?
- What are your dreams for your future world?
The World We Live In sessions are about sharing stories and we want personal experiences that have a meaning for you, a photograph, a poem, a family story to shape the discussions. Have a think of examples from your life and what you want to share before joining the group sessions.
Introduction
Who are we? Myrna & Tim. We developed the project A World in a Suitcase from scratch 5 years ago and it’s still developing and growing in many directions. We love stories, you can tell stories in many ways and visual storytelling is the most interesting and fun.
We have developed The World We Live In together to:
We will share your work online on our website for others to enjoy and learn from.
Myrna is currently writing stories and bringing them to life with animation. These will feed into our project. In the meantime you will see her again when she joins us during filming sessions. In the meantime she will continue to work on the website to make it fun and accessible for you all. Tim will be doing most of the teaching but we work as a team and Myrna will be involved at every stage of development and review.
Here’s a link to our website. Have a look at what other learners have done and get ideas for your artwork.

Why are we doing these sessions? Through hearing other peoples stories we are able to: Feel a connection to each other Discover similarities Explore differences Learn from each other's experiences How? Over 5 sessions Learn to listen to each other Recall stories - Through prompts or a visualisation. This helps stimulate our imagination and remember key events or stories Who is in the story? When and Where did it take place? What is the end of the story. What Happened - the End? Can you use this template to write or draw your thoughts, feelings or hopes? Can you write or draw one thing that was important to you? How has this situation changed your view of your life? A) before Covid19 B) during Covid 19 bearing in mind the limitations and opportunities of lockdown (10-15mins) We are all storytellers and artists, we can all make pictures. We are not judging the art. You can do stick figures, you can do blobs, the main thing is to PLAY and let yourself go! Here is an example of what I did using words I found in newspapers and magazines. Here is an example of what Myrna did with crayons and paper If you want to check out this website again here's the link
